    Should I use Bellwork to help prepare my students for testing?

    Absolutely! The formula for increasing test scores is:
    • Teach the essential skills;
    • Practice those skills to achieve mastery and facilitate retention; and
    • Familiarize students with the format and language of standardized tests.
    Based on feedback from educators since 1982, the use of Bellwork as an integral part of this formula is one of the most effective and professional approaches available to help improve students’ achievement and increase test scores.

    How is Bellwork used?

    Bellwork is designed to be used daily. Each student should have their own student book. This allows students to have a sense of personal ownership in the program and a sense of higher value in what they are doing. Each day your students will have up to four questions. Bellwork should be completed at the beginning of the day or at a transition time. Bellwork should be completed in the first few minutes of a class/period for those students in middle & high school. In most cases, the questions will be completed independently and then reviewed as a group for correctness. Some pages may call for a mini-lesson on a skill not yet taught. Bellwork can be used as a lead-in to your daily lesson and is also ideal to utilize as a time management tool.
